AEROSMITH Guitarist Talks To CNN Radio; Audio Available

February 11, 2009

AEROSMITH's official fan club AeroForceOne has uploaded a recent interview the band's guitarist Joe Perry gave to CNN Radio. Listen to it at this location.

Perry told ABC ePrep on February 5 that he and his bandmates have already gotten together to work on material for the group's new album. "We started rehearsing last week," the guitarist revealed, adding "the band's been all gathered back together. And we've been at it and going over some of the new stuff,"

AEROSMITH will head into the recording studio soon with producer Brendan O'Brien, who has previously worked with VELVET REVOLVER, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, PEARL JAM, AC/DC and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, among others. Perry told ABC ePrep, "We're real excited about it, we've wanted to work with him for a long time." The guitarist added that they're hoping to get back to their roots by "doing it more like we used to do the old records, which is the band playing live in the studio."

Joe also revealed AEROSMITH are planning to kick off a North American tour around June 1, and hope to have the album completed by then.

Perry recently issued a statement regarding the emergency knee surgery he recently underwent, which forced the band to cancel a February 1 headlining show in Caracas, Venezuela. As previously reported, Perry had the surgery because of complications from a knee replacement he had done last year. He wrote, "Recovery was going well until about six weeks ago. It got infected! At this point we don't know how or why, and after a series of tests, I had to undergo emergency knee surgery. Basically, they flushed out the knee with a lot of antibiotics. I got the call at 11 a.m. on a Thursday that I needed surgery the next day. I was in the hospital that night and had the operation the next day."

Perry said that postponing the show in Venezuela was "unavoidable," but that the band hopes to hit the road in late spring or early summer.

AEROSMITH's next studio album will be its first set of all-original material since 2001's "Just Push Play".
